VETIVER (KHAS)SLIP:-Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides) also called khus-khus is a fast growing perennial grass belonging to family Poaceae. It has thick fibrous adventitious roots which are aromatic and highly valued. Vetiver is native to India, but planted throughout the tropics for its fragrant roots and for erosion control.
USES: Used in cleaning agents such as soaps, detergents, shampoo, lotions, perfumes & insect repellent.
CULTIVATION: Well drained, sandy loam and red laterite soils of pH 6-8 is suitable to plant Vetiver. It can be propagated either by seeds or slips, but slips are commonly used. The crop takes about 25-30 days for germination. It is generally cultivated from July- September & yields 3000-4000 kg of roots which on distillation yield 30 L of Oil.
MARKETING: Vetiver oils have been a continuous growth in the market in recent years due to its use in cosmetic and perfume products. It is predicted that by 2022 the Vetiver oil market will be the fastest growing market in the country.
