LEMONGRASS SILP:-Lemon grass scientifically known as Cymbopogon flexuosus is one of the most commercially cultivated aromatic crops in India.It belongs to the family Poaceae and grown for its fragrant leaves and stalks which are used as flavouring. The grass grows at an average height of 76 cm with long, sharp pointed leaves.
USES: Used in herbal teas, foods and beverages, soaps, personal care products, cosmetics, natural cleaning products and herbal medicine. It is also one of the best natural repellent against insects.
CULTIVATION: Grown in almost all types of soil from light sandy soil to upland laterite soil with good drainage having pH 5.5-7.5. Stem from the mature plant at around 6-9 inches is taken and propagated in the field at a spacing of (1x2) ft for oil and (1.5x 2)ft for leave production. It is generally cultivated from July- September. Harvesting can be done after 6 months of planting. The average yield for leave production is 15,000 kg /acre whereas for oil production it is 120L/acre.
