MALABAR NEEM PLANT:-Malabar neem is a deciduous tree valued as a medicinal plant, as a source of organic pesticides and for its timber attains height upto 20 m high, with a bark thickness of 6-8mm dark brown in color.
Uses: It is a good secondary timber and the most preferred species for plywood industry. The wood is also used for packing cases, ceiling planks, building purposes, agricultural implements, pencil match boxes etc. as the wood is anti-termite.
Cultivation: Thrives best in sandy loam and red lateritic soils. Neem seedlings can be raised on nursery beds and transplanted or can be sown directly in the field. The production starts after seven years, growth rate ranges from 20-25 cm per year when intensively managed. The tree attains a volume of 15 cu ft. (Approx.) at the end of 15 years.
Marketing: Wood can be sold for the match and veneer industry. Market rate is higher so marketing of Malabar neem is easy and demand is high.
